HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR ORIENTAL RUGS
When it comes to major cleanings, it is usually a much better idea that you enlist in the help of professionals who spend each day treating and caring for some of the most unique hand-knotted rugs found around the world. We have dedicated our lives to understanding the intricacies of these artworks and have perfected our cleaning procedures for each type of rug that we can guarantee you that you will be wowed by the results. However, we understand that our professionals can’t be there all of the time to care for the basic day-to-day needs of your rug. So, when you’re in between cleanings, you can follow these basic care tips to make sure your rug stays in tip-top shape.
- Vacuuming. Keeping your carpet clean with a regular vacuuming can do wonders to protect the fibers of your rug from accumulating too much dust, dirt, or grime. When unwanted particles are allowed to settle in your rug for long periods of time it can eventually create a yellow, grey, or brown tint over your rug, masking the brilliant reds, blues, and beiges it was created with. However, running a normal vacuum over your Oriental rug isn’t a good idea since the brushes can beat up rug fibers causing them to break or become damaged. Instead, remove the beater bar from your vacuum or look for another brushless option.
- Regular rotations. One of the easiest and most effective ways to keep your rug looking great for years to come is to keep it on a regular rotation schedule. When a rug is placed in a formal living room, den, dining room, or other areas in your home, it is exposed to regular traffic patterns and furniture arrangements that can eventually wear away the rug fibers and its colors. When rug owners fail to rotate their rugs regularly, they begin to notice dirt concentrated in normal pathways and rips and tears near areas that entertainment centers, sofas, and other heavy furniture have sat. Rotating the rug helps to even out some of the wear and tear, allowing you to maintain a uniform look.
- Treating spills. Treating spills is one of the hardest things to do when it comes to an expensive area rug. Following the wrong procedure can leave you with ring marks, stiff carpet fibers, and color damage. Sometimes, it can even spread the stain further and cause it to get stuck deeper in your carpet. The most important thing though is to NOT use any store-bought cleaners that may have chemicals that can strip your carpet’s natural coloring and even cause damages to the wool, cotton, or silk fibers. The best way to treat a spill is to first use a clean dry cloth to gently soak up any excess liquid. If there are dry particles, such as dirt, you may want to use a vacuum to lift those first. Then, once you’ve soaked up as much liquid as possible, you’ll want to dip a new clean cloth into warm water and blot the stained area with the rag using a gentle, yet firm pressure. If you haven’t fully lifted the stain or if it is a pet stain, you can call our professionals immediately for a cleaning.
